Cedar Creek Falls Track – Tamborine National Park

Tamborine National Park is brimming with beautiful walking tracks that put you in prime position to marvel at the lush rainforest. The Cedar Creek Falls track is pram-friendly – perfect for hiking with bubs or toddlers who are begging to take a seat after just a few steps.

It’s a flat bitumen 500m-return walk, and your reward is the stunning view from the Cedar Creek Falls Lookout. Here you can snap some family photos with rainforest and waterfall scenery as your backdrop(who needs to pay for a professional?).

If you feel like taking a dip, the rock pools are located 900m-return from the lookout – but prepare to say goodbye to the pavement and rough it a bit to get there.

Fairfax Heritage walking track – Blue Mountains National Park, NSW

Prams, buggies, and wheelchairs are welcome on the scenic Fairfax Heritage walking track in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park. If you’re into breathtaking views without losing your breath to reach them, this cruisy track is perfect for your next family hiking trip.

The Fairfax Heritage walking track is dotted with a diverse range of flora, including a sprinkling of colourful wildflowers in early summer. Check out the lookouts offering waterfall views over Grose Valley (which is not at all gross, but quite beautiful indeed). This track is 1.8km one-way.

Palm Grove circuit, Noosa National Park, QLD

Another hotspot for hiking with kids, Palm Grove Circuit in the Noosa National Park is a relaxing stroll with a side of fresh ocean air. It’s a 1.1km loop, making it a family-friendly walk that won’t leave little legs feeling too tired.

Here you can enjoy the shade of towering hoop pines and piccabeen palms. This pleasant walk usually takes around 15-30 minutes and is suitable for all fitness levels. Add it to your list of must-do family hiking trips.

Good to know:

  • On the way there: Take a well-worth-it detour and sneak in breakfast and some artisan shopping at the Eumundi Markets (if it’s Saturday or Wednesday), lay your towel on the white sands of Noosa Head Main Beach, enjoy unparalleled views from Laguna Lookout.

Tomaree Head summit walk, Tomaree National Park, NSW

Nestled at the top of the Tomaree National Park, the Tomaree Head Summit Walk brings you face-to-face with giant leafy trees and unbeatable views of the idyllic Port Stephens coastline. This 2.2km-return walk features a steep gradient and quite a few steps, so it’s recommended for kids who don’t mind working their leg muscles.

Once you reach the summit, you’ll be rewarded with views of Yacaaba Head, Cabbage Tree, Boondelbah and Broughton Islands from the north platform, and Zenith, Wreck and Box Beaches, Fingal Island, and Point Stephens Lighthouse from the south platform.

  • On the way there: Take a dip at Samurai Nudist Beach (if you’re feeling bold!), make your friends green with envy with picturesque snaps from Gan Gan Lookout at Nelson Bay, stop for a meal with a seaside view at one of the cafés and restaurants on Shoal Bay Road.
  • Walk the track between May and October to up your chances of spotting a whale or two. Don’t forget your binoculars!

Lake Eacham circuit, Atherton Tablelands, QLD

Take a walk on the wild side and say g’day to some native wildlife on the Lake Eacham Circuit at the Atherton Tablelands. The kids will love coming face-to-face with musky-rat roos and tropical birds in every colour of the rainbow.

This simple 3km-return stroll around the rim of Lake Eacham is great for hiking with kids who don’t mind stretching their legs for an hour.
