Whale watching
Topping our list of must-do events for Hervey Bay is the world-renowned whale watching experience. This is a non-negotiable if you’re hitting up the bay between mid-July to November. Simply jump on a vessel and let the whale experts whisk you away to Platypus Bay, where you will find yourself up-close to one of Australia’s favourite deep sea creatures. A truly breath-taking experience; watch as they breach, fin-slap and play. A hot-tip, if you’ve not mastered your sea legs, we recommend packing some sea sickness tablets in your backpack for the trip!
Lady Elliot Island
Picture crisp white sand and a crystal clear ocean, cradled by a stunning coral reef. A nature seeker’s paradise, Lady Elliot Island is home to some 1,200 species of Great Barrier Reef marine life; and a popular home for majestic manta rays. This highly protected ‘Green Zone’ is known to be one of the best snorkelling destinations off the East Coast. It’s a day-trip you won’t regret!
Botanical Gardens
Boasting 26 hectares of beautifully curated gardens, birds and aquatic life; this is the perfect oasis to get back to nature. Take your favourite book and nestle under a tree, gather your friends for a lavish picnic or BBQ, or simply soak up the relaxing surroundings with a stroll through the grounds.
Day Trip to Fraser Island
The great sandy park of Fraser Island is a true aussie favourite and it’s not hard to understand why! With activities from 4WDriving to surfing, floating down the crystal clear waters of Eli creek, exploring the many shipwrecks that feature on land and underwater, or simply laying on the beach soaking up the remaining balmy days; this is an explorers oasis.
Stroll or ride along the esplanade
Spanning a whopping 17km along the Hervey Bay coastline, the esplanade is a true feast of sights and sounds, with never-ending views of the ocean. Slow down and take a stroll along this picturesque walkway, stop in for an ice-cream, check out the local shops or cool off with a quick dip in the ocean. For you fitness folks, the esplanade is perfect for running, riding or making the most of the FREE fitness equipment scattered along the walk; not to mention being super easy on the eyes!
